RULES

The Ledgers By Which We Play

Herein are the rules and regulations we expect patrons and employees alike to adhere to. While we allow (and expect) a certain amount of leeway with In-Character rules, the Out-of-Character rules are non-negotiable. In any event where the rules contradict, Out-of-Character rules take priority.

Additionally, if you aren't Vivid Union staff you needn't worry about the staff-specific rules. However, the staff are expected to be familiar with the rules required of the clientele. If ever you're unsure about what is and isn't against a rule, default to treating our hard working entertainers with respect.

BEHIND THE SCENES

OOC RULES

((Out Of Character))

#1: 18+

The players of all members, clients, and visitors of the Vivid Union must be at least 18 years old, and not younger than the legal age to view sexual content in their country, if that age is over 18.

#2: 18+ cont...

All characters depicted in nude or sexual content (including but not limited to roleplay, writing, art and in-game screenshots) must be both physically and mentally over the age of 18. Nude images and sexual content involving or depicting Lalafell characters are explicitly not allowed, and they are not allowed to attend sex-themed events.

#3: Inclusion

The Vivid Union is an explicitly, enthusiastically LGBTQ+ positive free company and venue, and we recognize the strength and importance of diversity. Under no circumstances will we tolerate racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, lesbophobia, or bigotry of any kind within our bounds.

#4: Language

Please avoid the use of fetish buzzwords and harmful epithets for trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming players and characters. This includes, but is not limited to: sh*male, f*ta, tr*p, d*ckgirl, c*ntboy, h*rm.

#5: Interruptions

The out-of-character comfort of the members, clients, and visitors of the Vivid Union is our highest priority. For this reason, any scene can be interrupted for any reason, and while we will do our best to provide an explanation it is by no means owed to anyone involved, regardless of any gil or in-character promises exchanged.

#6: Boundaries

If you are not completely comfortable with a distinct line between in-character and out-of-character we ask that you do not participate in activities at the Vivid Union. With that said, out-of-character comfort trumps anything in-game or in-character.

#7: Mutual Respect

Members and patrons alike are expected to be respectful to one another. Please be mature, and handle disagreements keeping in mind that we are all people and not just avatars. We are all adults and should handle disagreements like adults -through direct and clear communication. Leadership can act as best effort mediators when need be, but cannot solve all disagreements, and the expectation is that direct communication has been exhausted before leadership will step in.

#8: RP Expectations

If, as a patron at an event, you aren't feeling included, please reach out to a coordinator or officer for help fixing that! We want to make sure all our guests are having an awesome time. However, leadership is not ultimately responsible for providing or coordinating RP outside of setting up events. Members of VU are often super open to requests for RP and individuals are encouraged to reach out to set up scenes and stories, everyone is super friendly!

GUEST RULES

Behaving Yourself 101

#1: Authorities

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES may the Brass Blades be summoned to, or be granted access to, the union house. If a uniformed Blade enters the estate, notify Tialdae or another member of security immediately. Off-duty Blades are welcome.

#2: Weapons

All weapons, except those in the possession of members of Union staff, must be checked at the door. No services will be provided to those who refuse to check their weapons, and refusal to comply is grounds for removal. Failure to check weapons (including small concealable weapons such as shivs, boot knives, razor blades, and the like) is grounds for confiscation and/or removal. The Vivid Union guarantees gentle handling for all checked arms and the safe return of checked items at the end of each patron’s stay.

#3: Behavior

The expressed consent and comfort of our companions comes first. If ever a patron grows too brazen, or crosses boundaries, or unsettles the companion for any reason, security will be called and the offending patron dealt with.

#4: Individuals

The Vivid Union respects the individual rights of all spoken. No spoken, member or patron, should suffer prejudice while within the walls of the Union regardless of race, clan, proclivity, or expression. Violators will be dealt with.

STAFF RULES

Professional Behavior

#1: Regarding the Blades

The Brass Blades of Ul'dah have a documented history of violent intimidation against the vulnerable, and especially against courtesans and other sex workers. Therefore, in the interest of the protection of Union employees and our clients, we take the Brass Blades very seriously as a threat. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES may the Brass Blades be summoned to, or be granted access to, the Estate. If a uniformed Blade enters the estate, notify Tialdae or another member of security immediately. Off-duty Blades are welcome, however their coming-and-going and their habits must be quietly made note of and passed to either Ah'zi or Tialdae.

#2: Regarding disclosures of sensitive information

The Vivid Union maintains its business through a variety of methods and connections, many of whom count the discretion, temperance, and integrity of their business partners among their core values. Many of the relationships which Union leaderships have built -- the relationships upon which we rely for day-to-day operation -- would be jeopardized if their details were spied on by the wrong ears. Therefore, discussing internal Union affairs in common areas or within earshot of any patron is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, if a patron claims membership or affiliation to any criminal syndicate, organization, or cartel, please notify Ah'zi or Tialdae immediately but quietly.

#3: Regarding pricing

All publicly-facing food and drink items will be priced according to a menu, the most up-to-date version of which will be available in the Commons upstairs. All staff are expected to be familiar with the menu, and whichever staff member delivers food and drink items to a given patron is responsible for collecting payment from that patron. Staff are expected to write their names on any orders they take and deliver the slips to the till so as to log them. Ah’zi will clear the till every night. Companions are encouraged to set their own prices for their time and attention, including different prices for different services, and may adjust them as needed to suit customers’ needs. However, patrons who excessively lowball companions should be asked to leave; any patron which fails or refuses to pay for services rendered should be reported to Tialdae or another member of security immediately.

#4: Regarding compensation

All members of staff, regardless of role or responsibility, are entitled to room and board, two meals a day (breakfast and dinner), access to all facilities, plus a stipend of not less than 2,000 gil per person per week to cover other expenses. All money collected from services rendered on site will be entered into a till and totaled nightly. From the nightly take, Union leadership will deduct the cost of the evening’s expenses (oil, soap, cleaning supplies, firewood, cleaning cloths, etc.) and the resulting profits will be pooled and distributed weekly to companions and all other staff at a 60/40 split (companions being responsible for the essential work which sustains the Union). Exhaustive records will be kept of these activities and will be made available on request to any Union staff member at any time to check for completeness and accuracy. All staff members are permitted to collect gratuities from patrons; all tips belong solely to the member receiving them and are not required to be pooled with the nightly take.

#5: Regarding staff disputes with patrons

Because the Union maintains independent jurisdiction over its premises, disputes between staff and the house are to be handled on-premises and, ideally, out of the public view. Any attempt to cheat, shortchange, swindle, scam, intimidate, harass, or physically harm any member of staff regarding any good or service for any reason should be reported to security. Security should treat such individuals with extreme prejudice, though they are expected to retain cool heads in heated situations and to employ no more force than is necessary to obtain payment and/or eject offending individuals from the premises. Any individual ejected from the premises for any reason will be added to a “black list” to be posted and maintained in the common area upstairs.

#6: Regarding staff disputes with leadership

Union leadership understands that disputes may arise regarding matters of compensation and day-to-day operation. Furthermore, Union leadership cares deeply about the welfare of all individuals on staff. Staff members are encouraged to organize amongst themselves and to air any grievances with leadership as a group. Union leadership promises, as a term of each staff member’s employment, to always negotiate in good faith with Union members and to reach for compromises which benefit all parties.

#7: Regarding general behavior on the premises:

A non-exhaustive list of considerations regarding conduct on Union property follows.

  • Companions are responsible for ensuring their patrons keep all sex and heavy petting to the back rooms (exceptions made for locked-door nights).

  • The bunks are for sleeping. If you want to have sex, bring it to the backrooms.

  • Please do not bring patrons or guests to the top floor. The space is reserved for members only; respect your other union members' privacy.

  • Staff should be considerate to others at mealtime; no one is entitled to seconds until everyone present has had “firsts.”

  • Staff should work together to ensure everyone receives adequate breaks during their shift, including staggering mealtimes to ensure the floor is staffed during busy hours.

  • This bears repeating: staff are expected to avail themselves of the bath regularly - using soap - and to practice basic hygiene at all times. This rule does not only apply to companions!

  • Patrons are expected to pay for all food and drink items. Corollary: staff should not share crew meals with patrons (exceptions made for the very needy; the Union is a place of solace for the downtrodden).

  • This, too, bears repeating: Companions are entitled to terminate a sexual encounter at any time for any reason. Patrons are liable for all services rendered up to the point of the encounter’s termination.

  • Every two to three bells from sunrise to midnight, a member of security should conduct a brief patrol of the estate hallways and the outside grounds.

  • Staff are expected to work together to keep the house clean, from the backrooms and hallways to dining areas to the commons and the staff bathroom. No strict cleaning schedule will be kept as long as all cleaning tasks are being completed regularly.
